Barnaby Brown

Musician

Barnaby Brown blazes a sensational trail into the deep history of piping. Was the world’s favourite musical scale established over 40,000 years ago? Barnaby brings to life a Palaeolithic vulture bone pipe from Germany, a 27,000-year-old vulture bone pipe from France, a 4,500-year-old silver doublepipe from Iraq, a 2,500-year-old deer-bone aulos from Greece, and triplepipes inspired by 9th-century carvings from Ireland and Scotland. His CD In Praise of Saint Columba (2014) was described on BBC Radio 3’s Building a Library as ‘doing for the music of the ancient Celtic church what Gothic Voices did for Hildegard
of Bingen’.
