In their collaborative practice, Christo and Jeanne-Claude(born 1935) are internationally recognised for their highly ambitious outdoor interventions, from early wrapped objects to outdoor public art projects such as Wrapped Kunsthalle Bern, Switzerland, 1967-68; Valley Curtain, Grand Hogback, Rifle, Colorado, 1970-72; Running Fence, Sonoma and Marin Counties, California, 1972–76; Surrounded Islands, Biscayne Bay, Greater Miami, Florida, 1980–83; The Pont Neuf Wrapped, Paris, 1975–85; The Umbrellas, Japan-California,1984–91; Wrapped Reichstag, Berlin,1971–95 and The Gates, Central Park, New York City, 1979–2005. Their work has been exhibited worldwide, including documenta 4, Kassel (1968) and in solo exhibitions, which include The Museum of Contempor ary Art San Diego (2014); The Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington D.C. (2010); and Martin-Gropius-Bau, Berlin (2001). Since 2009, Christo has continued to work on major public art projects, most recently, The Floating Piers (2016) where 100,000 square meters of yellow fabric, carried by a modular floating dock system, adorned Italy’s Lake Iseo allowing visitors to walk on the surface of the water. Works in progress include Over The River, Project for the Arkansas River, Colorado and The Mastaba, Project for Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
