John Polk Allen

John Polk Allen is a systems ecologist and engineer, metallurgist, adventurer, poet and writer. He is best known as the inventor and Director of Research of Biosphere 2, the world’s largest laboratory of global ecology. He is Chairman of Global Ecotechnics Corporation, and has conceived numerous ecological and cultural projects: October Gallery (London), Las Casas de la Selva (sustainable forestry), Hotel Vajra (Kathmandu), Research Vessel Heraclitus, Synergia Ranch (New Mexico), Birdwood Downs Station (Western Australia), and Caravan of Dreams (Texas). He graduated from Colorado School of Mines and Harvard Business School, and is Fellow of the Linnean Society.
